Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste is any unwanted household product labeled as flammable, corrosive, toxic or reactive. Examples include: oil-based paint, pesticides, pool chemicals and paint thinner, old gasoline, kerosene, spray-paint cans.
The SCMUA only accepts Household Hazardous Waste from Sussex County residents during two Hazardous Waste Collection events held in the Spring and Fall of each year. Residents may bring up to 100 lbs. or 10 gallons of hazardous waste to the events free of charge. Additional quantities are charged by weight at $1.79/lb. No appointment is required. Events are held rain or shine.
