 Position Summary:

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) in Hardyston, NJ is seeking a reliable and hardworking Full-Time Wastewater Facilities Attendant to assist with the general operations and maintenance of SCMUA’s wastewater facilities. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in the wastewater utility field with opportunities for advancement and certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist licensed operators with plant inspections, maintenance, and operations.
  • Clean and maintain buildings, grounds, tools, and equipment.
  • Support sample collection and basic laboratory testing under supervision.
  • Perform routine janitorial, landscaping, and general labor tasks at the facility.
  • Help monitor equipment performance and report issues to supervisors.
  • Operate light machinery and tools in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Be available during emergencies to attend to the Authority’s facility on a 24-hour basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in wastewater operations (training and advancement opportunities available)

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and around wastewater.
  • Potential for advancement to licensed operator positions

Salary Range: $41,000 – $46,000 annually
