Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (I, II, or III)

Position Summary:

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) in Hardyston, NJ is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Wastewater Operator (I, II, or III). This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of our wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate treatment and/or transmission facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater and sludge.
• Monitor gauges, meters, and controls.
• Observe variations in operating conditions.
• Maintain operating logs and records of readings, meter, gauges, etc.
• Collect samples for compliance purposes.
• Operate pumps, valves, gates and other equipment.
• Assist in identifying process improvements to optimize plant efficiency

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, practices, and regulations.
• A minimum of 2-years of experience in wastewater treatment is preferred.
• Valid Wastewater Operator License is preferred [S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4].
• Basic computer skills are preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies on a rotating on-call basis.

Salary Range: $45,000 – $80,000 annually (based on experience and wastewater licenses)
